Alan Titchmarsh focuses on wildlife in the garden
Appeared on Space For Nature on April 3rd 2003
The recently completed BBC2 series How to Be a Gardener 2 concluded with a programme on April 3rd billed as The Natural Garden. The fourth programme in the series (screened on 27th February), entitle The Water Garden featured the creation of a pond very much along the currently recommended design for a wildlife-friendly pond.
As with Charlie Dimmock's recently completed series of Groundforce, the preponderance of gardens with a heavy wildlife or 'natural' element shows how 'fashionable' wildlife gardening is becoming. Of course, fashions come and they go; it remains to be seen whether promoting the accommodation of wildlife in the garden can become a more fundamental facet of the work of the nation's celebrity gardeners as a whole, but both Charlie Dimmock and Alan Titchmarsh have good credentials.
