In common with probably thousands of other children of my generation, this was my first bird book. Despite the fact that the illustrations are not up to today's standards, they certainly served their purpose for me as I began to encounter birds in my garden as a child. There are better small field-guides on the market today, but this one, for me, will always have a special resonance.
