A new on-line survey will enable the onset of Spring to be tracked across the country in 2005.
'Springwatch' is billed as the 'biggest ever survey into the arrival of Spring across the UK'. Created by the BBC in association with the Woodland Trust and the
UK Phenology Network, the survey aims to record the following six events across the country.
- Bumblebee (Bombus spp.) first seen.
- Peacock butterfly (Inachis io) first seen.
- Frogspawn (Rana temporaria) first seen.
- Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna) first flowering.
- Seven-spot ladybird (Coccinella 7-punctata) first seen.
- Swift (Apus apus) first seen.
Sightings require a postcode or grid reference and are entered on-line via an innovative illustrated form.
